SKYRACE ILLIMANI 2023

The Nevado Illimani is a beautiful mountain, an icon of the city of La Paz Bolivia and part of its most characteristic postcards. With its 6,462 meters above sea level, it is the second highest mountain in Bolivia and the highest in the Cordillera Real. It is covered with large glaciers and has 4 peaks that exceed 6,000 meters above sea level. In turn, it has an important value for the Aymara culture of the area. Carrying out the race to this mountain requires, in addition to having good physical condition and previous acclimatization, knowledge of ice techniques since it is transited through glaciers in a section between the Base Camp and the beginning of the mountain. The average slope is moderate and does not exceed 55° in a specific step. From this mountain there are superb views of other mountains of the Cordillera Real, the city of La Paz and Lake Titicaca. The race begins in the town of Cohoni, a community within the Municipal Government of Palca, a population at an altitude of 3,560 meters above sea level in the upper part of the La Paz River, a mountain valley and then runs through the Illimani canyon and then goes out to the field. base and later return to the town of Cohoni.

El Nevado Illimani es una bellísima montaña, ícono de la ciudad de La Paz Bolivia y parte de sus postales más características. Con sus 6.462 msnm, es la segunda montaña más alta de Bolivia y la más alta de la Cordillera Real. Está cubierto de grandes glaciares y posee 4 cumbres que sobrepasan los 6.000 msnm. A su vez, tiene un importante valor para la cultura aimara de la zona. Realizar la carrera a esta montaña requiere, además de contar con buen estado físico y aclimatación previa, conocimiento de técnicas de hielo ya que se tránsita a través de glaciares en un tramo comprendido entre el Campamento base y el inicio de La montaña. La pendiente promedio es moderada y no supera los 55° en un paso específico. Desde esta montaña se cuenta con soberbias vistas de otras montañas de la Cordillera Real, de la ciudad de La Paz y del lago Titicaca. La carrera da inicio en la localidad de Cohoni comunidad dentro del Gobierno Municipal de Palca, una población a una altura de 3560 msnm en la parte superior del Rio La Paz un valle de montaña y luego recorre por el cañón del Illimani para luego salir al campo base y retornar posteriormente a la localidad de Cohoni.
